The launching of the Bhutan Gender Statistics 2010 was held in Rangjung HSS, Trashigang Dzongkhag on the occasion of the International Women’s’ Day on 8th March, 2011 . The document was prepared by the Gross National Happiness Commission and signifies the first effort towards compiling and presenting vital sex disaggregated data. The printing of the publication was supported by the UNFPA.
This publication highlights achievements made while striving for the promotion of gender equality and women’s empowerment, and also draws attention to the critical existing gender gaps that need to be addressed for pursuing Bhutan’s development philosophy of GNH, through increasing awareness and the formulation of relevant policies and programmes to address them.
