The GNHC Secretariat (GNHCS) in collaboration with the Centre for Bhutan Studies (CBS) conducted a Workshop on GNH Indicators and its application in the government planning and policies on 1st July, 2010 at Royal Institute of Management, Thimphu. About one hundred civil servants across government agencies attended the workshop. Dasho Karma Ura, president of the CBS presented the GNH indicators and its importance and advantages as an alternative measure of development. The secretary of GNHCS presented the application of indicators in formulation of government plans and policies.
The workshop highlighted that GNH Index is a set of indicators that captures the common aspirations of the Bhutanese people. The indicators will guide Bhutan’s development approach and will serve as basis for determining resource allocation. The indicators are derived from the nine domains – Education, Health, Time Use, Living Standard, Good Governance, Community Vitality, Culture, Community Wellbeing and Ecological Diversity and Resilience. The Policy & Project Screening Tool, developed in relation to GNH indicators will help mainstream GNH into new plans and policies. Similar workshops will be conducted in future for rest of the civil servants and citizens.
