The Third Annual Consultation between the Royal Government of Bhutan (RGoB) and the Government of the Kingdom of Netherlands was held in Thimphu on 21st June 2011. H.E Ambassador Bob Hiensch led the Dutch delegation and Mr. Karma Tshiteem, Hon’ble Secretary, Gross National Happiness Commission (GNHC) led the Bhutanese delegation.
The consultation is conducted annually to update on the Bhutan’s progress on poverty reduction, its state of economic management and its developments in terms of good governance in the 10th FYP through the budgetary support of Euro 10,000,000 from The Netherlands government. Following presentations were made:
GNHC also updated that the 10th FYP Mid-Term Review was completed and overall financial achievement stands high at 78 percent. However, the level of poverty, especially in the rural areas, is relatively high because of the harsh geophysical reality and scattered rural settlements that inhibited effective mainstreaming of rural communities into the development process, low agricultural productivity and subsistence farming including the lack of resources. Therefore, sustained support from development partners, as always has been, will continue to be strategically important in meeting the overall goal of reducing poverty and other global compacts, including SDGs and MDGs.
The consultation concluded with the expression of gratitude for the generous support and co-operation extended to Bhutan by The Netherlands government.
