Danida Fellowship Programme – Private Sector Initiative 2009

It is once again a pleasure to call for invitations for 4 courses under the newly launched Private Sector Initiative. Applications are invited from CEOs, managers, and leading staff working in businesses or business organizations affiliated with Danish private sector support programmes. Please note that the response period is shorter than normal for DFC programmes.

So far, the following courses are being offered in 2009:

Private Sector Development – Export-oriented Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs)
(June 15-26) - Deadline for submitting the application at the Embassy is April 10

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
(June 15-July 3) - Deadline for submitting the application at the Embassy is April 10

Private Sector Development – SMEs within Productive Industries
(June 2-16) - Deadline for submitting the application at the Embassy is April 3

General Tools and Concepts in Agribusiness SME Development
(June 15-July 3) - Deadline for submitting the application at the Embassy is April 10

The courses will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark in June and July 2009. The courses will have 12-20 participants and we strongly encourage both men and women to apply.

Course Specifications

The courses are specifically designed to meet the needs of people working in the private sector in developing countries. Emphasis is put on private sector development and direct applicability of course contents.
NB: Course participants must be able to discuss course topics in English and to use a computer.

Application Procedure

The application form can be downloaded from our web site or obtained at the Royal Danish Embassy.

The potential participants must fill in Fellowship Forms:

  1. Two copies are required.
  2. The Fellowship Forms must be endorsed by a responsible officer of the Programme/Project.
  3. Also, Fellowship Forms are to be countersigned by the relevant Danish Embassy Officer.
  4. After endorsement, the Embassy is kindly asked to forward all forms directly to DFC.


Deadlines for all forms to reach the Danida Fellowship Centre differ from course to course – please check the respective course leaflets. NB Two of the course leaflets which have been circulated via the Embassies are faulty. These two leaflets are from COWI and the courses are Private Sector Development – Export-oriented Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) andPrivate Sector Development – SMEs within Productive Industries . In these leaflets, wrong deadlines for applications are given. The real deadlines are indicated earlier in this mail. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Selection Procedure

  1.         The selection committee will meet at DFC immediately after the application deadline.
  2.         Embassies and Programme/Projects will be informed of the selection soon hereafter.
  3.         After selection, participants must forward health certificates to DFC. The health certificates should be signed between one and four months prior to the course.

Economy

The course participation (including air fare, accommodation, allowances, study fees, insurances) will be fully funded by Danida Fellowship Programme’s Private Sector Initiative.

Conflict Management in Development Assistance

 

Module 1: 15 June – 26 June, 2009

A course with 20 participants will take place in Kathmandu, Nepal, and we hereby invite participants from Nepal, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Vietnam and Bhutan. It is now time to consider if this course meets the training needs of your programme/project.

The course is specifically designed for Danida supported development programmes. Emphasis is put on applicability of knowledge & skills and the transfer from course to work area.

Funding

The Conflict Management Course is co-funded by the Danida supported Fellowship Programme. The programmes / projects are charged DKK 2,500 per participant per tutorial week.

The total funding needs for this course are DKK 10,000 per participant. This includes study fees, accommodation, allowances, insurances and international transport. We kindly ask the Programme/work place to assist in obtaining an air ticket; the expenses will be reimbursed upon arrival.

Emerging Leaders Scholarship Programme (ELSP) , M.Sc. Agribusiness and Food Economics, Primo August 2009 – Mid July 2011

Denmark has set aside funding over a five-year period from 2007 for fellowships to assist selected younger entrepreneurs and emerging business leaders from Danida’s programme countries and South Africa to take the full-time (24 months) Master in Agricultural Economics with focus on Agribusiness at the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Copenhagen (LIFE). The aim is to assist suitable applicants to further develop the initiatives and the potential they already have demonstrated, and to equip them to operate in the globalised economy. 

Consistent with Danish policy and priorities, ELSP intends to award the majority of its fellowships in Africa, where new jobs and income generation are essential to sustainable development. Particular focus will be placed on assisting women to overcome gender-based barriers which hamper their potential contribution to private sector growth.
The ELSP is designed to contribute to Private Sector Development, and private companies or self-employed business persons are expected to be the main source of qualified applicants for scholarships.  Applicants will come from locally-owned private-sector companies engaged in business management and entrepreneurship, the financial and banking sector including micro financing, business associations, legislative and regulatory bodies, and academic and training institutes contributing to private sector development.

Applicants must have a bachelor degree or equivalent in economics, agricultural economics or business, and a minimum of two years of working experience. Candidates with other degrees are also admitted with requirements on a per-case basis.

The potential participants must fill in two copies of the Fellowship Form – this form can be downloaded from our web site www.dfcentre.com or obtained at the Royal Danish Embassy.

  1. The Fellowship Forms must be endorsed by a relevant Embassy Officer.

Selection Procedure
  1. Fellowships will be awarded by a committee comprising representatives of the University and of DFC.
  2. Embassies will be informed of the selection from DFC.
  3. After selection the participants are requested to fill in application for residence permit (ST1).
  4. After selection, participants must forward health certificates to DFC. The health certificates should be signed between one and four months prior to the course.
Economy

The estimated total cost of obtaining this Master Programme is approximately DKK 257 000 per year including tuition fees, books, accommodation, allowances and international transport. ELSP scholarships will cover 90% of the total cost, and the applicant must therefore be prepared to secure the remaining 10% from other sources.

Capacitation of Journalists Covering the Climate Summit in Copenhagen ( June 15 – July 3 & December 3 – 18, 2009)
 

Danida Fellowship Centre hereby calls for applications for this course which is organized in connection with the 2009 Climate Summit in Copenhagen. The course is for public as well as private sector – and Embassies, programmes and projects are encouraged to promote this course to supported media partners and other relevant institutions. Participants will strengthen their knowledge and reporting skills related to climate issues up to and during the summit. They will also get accreditation for the summit. The course will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark in two parts. Participation in both parts is obligatory.

Course Specifications

The course is primarily designed for participants from Danida-supported development programmes, but journalists from some of the biggest greenhouse gas emitting countries e.g. Brazil, China and India are also invited to participate. Focusing on journalistic skills, climate change knowledge and topics directly related to the Climate Change Summit, emphasis is put on applicability of knowledge and skills. The Capacitation of Journalists Covering the 2009 Climate Summit in Copenhagen Course is co-funded by Danida Fellowship Programme. Programmes/projects are charged DKK 2,500 per participant per tutorial week. The total funding needs are DKK 12,500 per participant. This includes study fee, accommodation, allowance, insurances, international transport, and accreditation to the summit.
