Having adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the SDGs, Bhutan is well on track towards implementation of the SDGS. Bhutan’s development philosophy of Gross National Happiness strongly resonates with the vision and principles of the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development. The values and principles of GNH are based on Sustainable Development and this has been the guiding principle for all our development plans. As such, RGoB has been able to integrate the SDGs into its development plans. Bhutan is one of the first countries to be amongst the pilot countries for SDG localization.
Notwithstanding that, Bhutan continues to be face challenges and vulnerabilities relating to economy, impacts of climate change and human resource.
Bhutan has enlisted to undergo the Voluntary National Review (VNR) at the 2018 High Level Political Forum (HLPF) on the implementation of the SDGs. This will help us assess the SDG implementation progress and achievements so far. RGoB delegation led by the Hon’ble Finance Minister will attend the HLPF to present Bhutan’s VNR at the United Nations.
This will provide Bhutan with an opportunity to showcase progress, share challenges and experiences in the implementation of the SDGs with the international community and development partners.
