Upon the signing of Exchange of Note between Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Bhutan to Japan, Vetsop Namgyel and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Bhutan Kenji Hiramatsu on 19th June 2019 at the Embassy of Japan in New Delhi, the Secretary of the GNH Commission, Mr. Thinley Namgyel and Chief Representative of JICA Bhutan Office, Mr.Kozo Watanabe, signed the Grant Aid Agreement for ‘The project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS)’ of approximately amounting
to Nu. 110,000,000 (One Hundred Ten Million only) on 20th June 2019.
Japan Development Scholarship is to develop human resources in various fields for the development of Bhutan. The scholarship will give opportunity to public servants to take up Masters and Doctoral programme in Japanese Universities. The project will be implemented by the Royal Civil Service Commission. In total, the Government of Japan will offer 40 postgraduate slots in various fields of which 36 will be Masters Degree and 4 slots for PhD in Economics over the project period of 4 years from 2019 till 2022.
The above mentioned – program will provide a good opportunity for Bhutanese professionals to learn at the best Japanese Universities. Further, it will also provide a good opportunity for Bhutanese to experience the Japanese rich and diverse culture and in long run will further strengthen the good relationship between Japan and Bhutan.
