GNHC Secretary and JICA signed Grant Agreement and Record of Discussion

Royal Government of Bhutan, represented by GNH Commission and Government of Japan represented by JICA Bhutan Office signed Grant Agreement on “The Project for Improvement of Farm Machinery for Hiring Services of Tillage (Phase II)”

Upon the signing of Exchange of Note between Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bhutan to Japan, Vetsop Namgyel and Ambassador of Japan to Bhutan, Satoshi Suzuki on 09 March 2020 in New Delhi,  the Secretary of the GNH Commission, Mr. Thinley Namgyel and Chief Representative of JICA Bhutan Office, Mr.Kozo Watanabe, signed the Grant Aid Agreement for “The Project for Improvement of Farm Machinery for Hiring Services of Tillage (Phase II)” of approximately amounting to Nu. 291.8 Million (427,000,000 Japanese Yen) on 27th March, 2020.

The grant agreement is as per the request from the RGoB. The planned items of equipment to be procured are 200 power tillers, 150 mini tillers, 30 tractors, 20 combine harvesters and maintenance of equipment.

The equipment will be delivered in 2021.

The Secretary of the GNH Commission, Mr. Thinley Namgyel and Chief Representative of JICA Bhutan Office, Mr.Kozo Watanabe, signed the Record of Discussion (RD) for “Project for Capacity Enhancement on Irrigation Planning, Design and Construction Management in Bhutan” on 27th March, 2020.

The purpose of this project is enhancement of the technical capacities of engineers of Agriculture Engineering Division of DoA, ARDC and DES on irrigation planning, planning & design and construction management of irrigation facilities.

It is anticipated that every organization related to irrigation, which includes college, would take part in this project as implementation/cooperation agency or participants of seminars.

The project is scheduled to be implemented from summer in 2020.
