Austria contributes Euro 520,000 in support of Bhutan’s preparedness and response to COVID-19 Pandemic.
The Director of the Gross National Happiness Commission (GNHC), Mr. Rinchen Wangdi, and the Resident Coordinator of the Austrian Coordination Office for Development Cooperation, Mr. Johannes Binder (PhD), signed the Grant Contract on Austrian Contribution to COVID-19 Preparedness and Response with a grant of Euro 520,000 (ca. Nu.42 million) on 28 May 2020 at Tashichhoedzong.
On the occasion of the signing of the Grant Contract, Mr. Johannes Binder, Resident Coordinator, Austrian Coordination Office, Thimphu, commended the Government’s efforts on keeping all persons in Bhutan safe. Prevention of secondary infection, respectively, endemic spread, is fundamental. This goal is despite the challenges faced by the health sector such as shortages of healthcare specialists and laboratory experts, shortage of test kits protective equipment, and ventilators.
Therefore, the Austrian contribution will support Bhutan in purchasing advanced ventilators (MV 2000- EVo 5) for the Intensive Care Units, coverall white Tyvek and procurement of medical masks or other standardised medical equipment.
The grant of Euro 520,000 (ca. Nu.42 million) is within the committed amount in the 12 FYP from Austrian Coordination Office for Development Cooperation.
