The Gross National Happiness Commission officials lead by Honorable Secretary attended the Disability Equality Training (DET) today. The training covered various aspects of disability, including issues, challenges, experiences and aspirations of Persons with Disabilities. The training was facilitated by persons with disabilities from Disabled Persons’ Association of Bhutan, Ability Bhutan Society, Wangsel Institute for the Deaf, Draktsho and Phensem.
During the training various issues such as accessibility of infrastructure, transportation, communication, justice and equipment, and financial constraints including issues related to elderly citizen and way forward were discussed. The training is a part of the implementation of action plan for the National Policy for Persons with Disabilities which was endorsed by the government in 2019.
Similarly, the training was also conducted for Planning officials from Ministries and Thimphu Thromde, Development Partners and Teachers of Thimphu Thromde.
The training was jointly organized by the Research and Evaluation Division of Gross National Happiness Commission Secretariat in collaboration with Disabled People’s Association of Bhutan with the support from Save the Children.
