The Grant Agreement signing on the support towards Waste Management Flagship Programme between the Royal Government of Bhutan and the Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation was held on 21st of October, 2020 in Thimphu. The agreement was signed between Mr. Thinley Namgyel, Secretary, Gross National Happiness Commission Secretariat and Mr. Ugyen Lhendup, the Officiating Director of BTFEC.
Upon the request of RGoB to frontload project cycle 2020-2021 funds for RGoB to respond to COVID-19 related and priority initiatives of the government, BTFEC has shown an unprecedented support and has agreed to frontload Nu. 85 million.
As agreed between GNHC and BTFEC, the front-loaded amount would be tied towards conservation efforts. Considering the mandates of BTFEC and the priority areas of RGoB, the fund is allocated towards the Waste Flagship Programme of the country.
The Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation (BTFEC) is an independent grant making organization, mandated by Royal Charter of 1996 “..For the promotion of social welfare through environmental conservation of the forests, flora, fauna, wildlife, diverse ecosystems and biodiversity in Bhutan.” A global pioneer established in 1992, BTFEC is concerned with Bhutan’s environmental health, and sustainability of program interventions.
Since inception, BTFEC had supported projects amounting to Nu. 1,458 million in the areas of nature conservation and livelihood enhancement.
