Press Release on 2nd Project Monitoring Committee (PMC) Meeting of the 12th FYP GoI PTA Project

The second Project Monitoring Committee (PMC) Meeting of the 12th FYP GoI PTA Project was held on 12th July 2022 in Thimphu. The PMC was co-chaired by Mr. Wangchuk Namgay, Officiating Secretary, Gross National Happiness Commission and Mr. Amit Shukla, Director (North), Ministry of External Affairs. The PMC was also attended by officials from the Gross National Happiness Commission, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Embassy of India, Project DANTAK and the PTA project implementing sectors and agencies.

To understand the ground realties and practical difficulties, the PMC members also visited the following projects and commended the good progress made:

  1. Construction of Jigme Singye Wangchuck School of Law (Royal Institute of Law), Paro
  2. Construction of 150 bedded Mother and Child Hospital, Thimphu
  3. CSI Market, Changzamtog, Thimphu
  4. Four lane road from Chubachu to Jungzhina, Thimphu
  5. Construction of Simtokha round-about, Thimphu and
  6. Reconstruction of Wangduephodrang Dzong

The PMC noted significant progress in all projects despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Out of 82 PTA projects, 16 are successfully completed and remaining 66 are at various stages of implementation with majority of them nearing completion. All projects are expected to be completed by the end of 12th FYP.  

The PMC also recommended to submit upward cost revision of nine projects with good progress, reconciliation of five projects, progress report of the PTA projects and expediting the release request of Nu. 5,548.787 million for 31 PTA projects to the Plan Talks, which is expected to be held between second to third week of August this year.
